Therapy is tending to the needs of your soul
We all deserve a high quality of attention and care. By tending to who you are—the shadow and the light—you begin to build the resilient capacity to embody the power of your whole self.
MY THERAPEUTIC APPROACH
I'm Shannon Algeo
One of the highest predictors of successful outcomes in psychotherapy is the therapeutic relationship. My therapeutic approach is rooted in the scientific research of attachment theory and the ancient wisdom of community: we do not heal alone by ourselves; healing occurs relationally—through facilitating corrective emotional experiences.
"What has been broken relationally must be repaired relationally"
I am a therapist who works with my clients as a collaborator, soul friend, and deep listener. I believe in the power of evocative empathy—the radical notion that it can be powerfully healing to be deeply moved by one another. I am a straight-shooter who is not afraid to be direct (when appropriate), have fun (when needed), and explore how to meet your unique needs through our connection.
My therapeutic approach is:
- humanistic (we are all having a human experience),
- strengths-based (you have inner resources and resilience that have gotten you this far),
- attachment-based (our early experiences influence how we learned to relate to others),
- trauma-informed (you always get to choose what we talk about),
- depth oriented (the unconscious psyche, Greek for soul, communicates through dreams, synchronicity, image, song, poetry, archetype, or myth), and
- somatic (essential wisdom lives in the sensations of the body).
I work with individuals, couples, and families, and I treat a wide range of symptoms from anxiety, depression, trauma, identity issues, addictive behaviors, grief, betrayal, communication, and interpersonal skills.
As an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT #139516) and Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC #13859), I graduated with my Masters in Counseling Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute—with an Emphasis in Depth Psychology.

What Type of Therapy Are You Looking For?
In our first few sessions, you and I will work together to identify your presenting issues and goals for therapy, which may change over time. My approach is relational, humanistic, trauma-informed, strengths based, and depth oriented.
I practice Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT) for Couples, which is a thoroughly researched, attachment-based approach to identify ruptures in the relationship and strengthen the bond of your partnership. My approach is experiential and relational.
Family & Teens
I work with families and teens to support the process of adolescent individuation and the exploration and acceptance of identity. With experience working with teens in high school, my approach is relational, family systems-based, and experiential.

Trust Your Truth
Do you ever struggle to trust yourself and listen to the voice of your inner wisdom? Self-doubt intensifies whenever we give our power away to people and things outside of us. But your self-worth is always sourced from within you.
Organized by the seven chakras—the energetic centers of the body—Trust Your Truth invites you to discover your truth on every level of your being:
- to awaken to your true calling,
- accept yourself wholeheartedly,
- honor your emotions, trust your intuition, and
- measure success based on how true you can be to yourself—rather than the expectations of others.
Each chapter contains raw stories of transformation from my life, journaling questions, and meditation practices that invite you to become the most present and empowered version of you.
